Another truly epic malt from Caol Ila, this is an oily, smoky dram with a very generous dollop of pepper and hot spices. A tremendous winter malt guaranteed to warm your cockles.

TASTING NOTES
Nose: Unbelievably oily, even for Caol Ila: suntan lotion, olive oil, some linseed and camphor in the background. With a newly opened bottle the peat is difficult to pick out, but manifests as a very faint dusty turfiness, which was more evident on second tasting a couple of months later. Some very slight hints of cocoa and sweet cinnamon emerge as the nose becomes grassier.
Palate: An immense burst of pure coal, totally unforeseen by this taster, who had detected no hint of it on the nose. Taken neat, the palate is very big-boned with a lot of soot and hot spice. The oil appears mid-palate alongside some cereal and salty maritime flavours (barbecued fish?), but really it's all about the smoke here.
Finish: Long, hot and very peppery. A real winter dram.
Comment: To add water would be to totally miss the point of this kind of elemental whisky. Be brave and take it neat.
